16 months old. really?

is my baby REALLY 16 months old? how is that possible? she was just a little peanut not so long ago. now she is walking, talking, letting me know what she wants. it is amazing.

her milestones for now are:
  • she can do a somersault by herself now.
  • she can reach behind herself with her hands and lift her hiney off the ground. sort of like if you were doing a butt toning exercise. she seems to have a lot of arm strength.
  • she went up a set of steps on a slide the other day and lifted herself up on her arms and pulled her legs through to sit on her bottom to slide down.
  • she can almost jump and get her feet off the ground.
  • her vocabulary is up to about 50 words now. i will post another day about all of those.
  • she sleeps until about 7am most days. big change from 5:30-6:00.
  • she signs: more, please, and thank you regularly. AND she made up her own sign for thank you. instead of this:

she makes two fists and hits her tummy 2 times. it is so cute. i dont know where that came from :)
  • she is adding syllables to words now. pa for paci went to paci! she says doggy and mommy.
  • i trimmed her bangs for the 1st time. she wont let me do her little ponytails anymore so i had to trim the shaggy hair so she could see.
  • this one isnt so cute but she loves the tv. she will run up to it and do the please sign and say tv tv. it is so hard to not give in when she asks for it!
  • she still loves loves loves black beans and now sweet peas. she gets so excited when i make these things. she will say over and over again: beans, beans, beans or peas, peas, peas! she would rather eat those 2 things than ANYTHING else! crazy :)
anyway that is all for now. stay tuned for a vocabulary list of her words to date.

cat fest mess, UGH!

so you know how they say when your kids are quiet they are usually into something. well i didn't think my sweet 16th month old was that sneaky yet. well was i wrong. yesterday when i was getting ready she was out doing something to entertain herself. i thought she was in her room playing with all her new shoes!

this is what i found when i came around the corner:

after she dumped all the water and cat food onto the floor, she started jumping in the water in her socks! good times!

update from the mom ~ 15 months

as the babe enters into almost 15 months of life, here is the latest on her. man she is a crazy, silly, happy girl!

  • she can say "please" in sign language without being asked. the other day we were playing the paci game where i put it in and out of her mouth, the second time i pulled it out she made the please sign!
  • she can make the "more" sign when prompted. we are working on "thank you" and "milk". we are sort of behind in our sign language but she is doing great.
  • she is only taking one nap now.
  • she has graduated into the toddler room at school.
  • she made her first piece of art the other day that was not made with her hand or feet prints.

  • she puts her face in the water in the tub and when swimming.
  • she loves to dance. at school they play the freeze dance game. she dances dances dances, then they say freeze and throw up their hands. she totally does it with them!
  • she loves to jump in the jumpy bounce house.
  • she loves to jump from the chair onto a pillow on the floor. not sure how active most kids are at her age but she is really flexible and always always on the move. tonight when she got out of the bath i couldnt get her diaper on bc she kept arching her back. like ALL THE WAY. like she was doing a back bend. crazy!
  • she can almost do a somersault ~ well sort of ~ she bends all the way down with her head on the floor and leans over, she falls to the side :)
  • she is on whole milk now.
  • she loves loves loves pickles and olives. she chose a pickle vs a cheese sandwich and fries the other day!
  • she is still a joyful, and happy ALL the time sweet girl.
here is a recent picture that we took of her that captures her EXACTLY!

fun day at the park

we went to this really fun park the other day in roswell. it is called roswell rec park. it is sort of old but they have a little kids area that is closed in by a fence. i recommend it is you have small kids. i cant find the online link but it is right down the street from the down town roswell historic cemetery.

they have this fun tunnel that has cuts in it so you can get a grip. mags loved it!!

here she is in one of the bucket swings. she loved this too. she was just chilling and then leaned forward with her arms over the swing and tipped forward and almost fell out. i took a HUGE breath in and ran to her and said something loud like "OH MY GOSH MAGS!" and you know what she did?? she laughed out loud at mommy. they are so fearless!

car seat ~ new rules

so tonight in my parent magazine i came across a blurb that made me smile. so i am not crazy after all. you see mags has been riding rear facing in her car seat since she was a wee babe and still rides rear facing even though she is over 20 lbs and is 14 months old. i read a long time ago that extended rear facing is safer for your child. there is more support for her little neck if we crash. i have heard it described that their heads are like a melon on a popcicle stick in an accident.

tonight i read that there is in fact new research out there confirming this. it is now recommended that your child stay rear facing until they reach the seats height and weight limits for the convertable car seat. this is usually 36 inches tall and 30-35 lbs. (depending on your seat of course, ours is 50 lbs)

i cant find any links on the web for this new research but i do have the following you can link to that mentions these new recommendations and will cover all the what ifs. what if my child wants to face forward, wont his/her legs break if we have an accident etc.

anyway i just wanted to share :)
